A statue of Mahe de la Bourdonnais stands near the quayside end of the avenue, which leads up to the colonial Government House. The avenue is lined with half buried cannons chained together, which are supposed to symbolize peace.
This house is the Mauritius governor's residence, now used by the military. Unfortunately the house is open to the public only two days a year, in March and October.
