The Public Infrastructure Division of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Land Transport & Shipping is responsible for the implementation of Road, Bridge and Government Building infrastructural projects.
To construct, embellish, preserve and enrich the built and unbuilt environment in the interest of functionality, aesthetics, public health, safety, welfare and culture conducive to efficiency and comfort for the users and the public at large.
To fulfil the needs of the nation in the design, construction, maintenance and repair of roads, bridges and government buildings by ensuring the provision of functional, aesthetic and environment-friendly structures conforming to high construction standards.

The Building Section of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Land Transport & Shipping (Public Infrastructure) is responsible for the implementation of building projects for Ministries and Departments. The Architect, Engineer and Quantity Surveying Sections, under the responsibility of the Director (Architecture), Director (Civil Engineering) and Director (Quantity Surveying) respectively ensure the safety, functionality, aesthetic of Government buildings and that they are environmentally friendly and conducive to efficiency and comfort to the users and to the public at large. The Ministry ensures that prompt response and professional advice are given to the user authority in the design, maintenance, contracting, monitoring and supervision of Government buildings to ensure value for money. The combination of technical excellence and sound management gives substantial cost benefits to Ministries and Departments.
The Investment in road network throughout the island is a visible sign of commitment by the Government to improve the quality of life of the people. On the one hand, improvements are being brought to existing road infrastructure while on the other hand, new roads are being constructed to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce travelling time and provide comfort to users. The safety dimension is also taken on board by the provision of footpaths, drains, footbridges and parking facilities in other regions of the country. The Mission of the Roads Section of the Ministry is to consistently improve the design, construction and maintenance of roads and bridges, with the aim to reduce traffic congestion, vehicle operating costs, ensure road safety and provide for better and more efficient communication and access.
