Mauritius is now poised to become a cyber island and to serve as an info-communications hub in the region. The vision of an information society dates back to the early 1990s. However, recent top level commitment coupled with the creation of an enabling environment has given Mauritius a new impetus. It is Government's declared policy to make ICT the fifth pillar of the economy alongside sugar, textiles, financial services and tourism.

Objectives of the Ministry

  • Formulate appropriate policies and provide the necessary legal framework for the development of ICT and its optimal use across all sectors
  • Facilitate, through the implementation of an E-Government programme, the provision of Government services electronically anytime anywhere for the greater convenience of the public
  • Promote and facilitate the development of the ICT sector.
  • Ensure that the ICT culture permeates all levels of the society to bridge the digital divide to the extent possible
  • Promote the development of ICT enabled services including e-business
  • Encourage the adoption of new technologies and best practices in the ICT
  • Promote capacity building in ICT .

Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICT Authority). The Authority is the national regulator for the ICT sector and Postal Services in Mauritius.

  • The National Computer Board (NCB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies and the Ministry of Women's Rights, Child Development and Family Welfare organised a Round Table session on Thursday the 14th May 2009 at 9.00 am at the Swami Vivekananda Conference Centre, Pailles, to finalise the legal measures recommended in the Child Safety Online Action Plan. The round table was launched by the Hon. Asraf Dulull, Minister of Information and Communications Technology.

    Preamble:

  • The National Computer Board (NCB) was set up in 1988 by the National Board Act (Act No.43) to promote the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Mauritius. It is a para-statal body administered by a Board of Directors and operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

    The ICT Incubator Centre was set up to promote entrepreneurship development and boost job creation through the provision of logistical and business support to start ups in the ICT sector.

    Our Mission:

    Our Objectives:

    • AHRIM, ‘Association des Hôteliers et Restaurateurs de l'île Maurice' was formed in 1973, with the primary objective of representing and promoting the interest of hotels and restaurants in Mauritius .

      Initially, there were 5 hotels and 9 restaurants forming part of AHRIM. Since then, the association has been playing a very crucial role in tourism decision making, helping in the development of the island. Presently, 66 hotels and 33 restaurants, as well as 2 associate members and 5 affiliate members are linked with AHRIM.

    • Objectives of the IBA

      The Authority will regulate this sector by granting licences and more specifically by -

      • Promoting diversity, wider choice in the field of broadcasting through the setting of standards for the delivery of high quality service.
      • Ensuring that broadcasters operate in a level playing field where fair competition is the rule.
      • Ensuring that broadcasters preserve and promote the plural nature of the Mauritian society by specially dedicated content.
    • Role of Co-operatives Division

      The Co-operatives Division has the statutory duty to ensure that the Co-operative Societies operate within the co-operative legal regulatory framework. It assists in the consolidation , promotion and development of the Co-operative Movement through the creation and provision of favourable and conducive environment.
