Mauritius has a long-standing tradition of Government/Private Sector dialogue which allows the Private Sector to voice its views on the development strategy of the country. The dialogue takes place in a structured manner as well as on an ad hoc basis.

The main objectives of the JEC are:

  • to promote the interests of the Private Sector and free enterprise in Mauritius;
  • to provide for joint consultation among the various organizations of the Private Sector;
  • to liaise with Government and other bodies on matters relating to the socio-economic development of Mauritius;
  • to make representations in relation to legislative or other measures affecting the Private Sector; and
  • to initiate and encourage activities which would further the development and interests of the Private Sector and the upliftment of the country.
