Founded in 1970, the Joint Economic Council (JEC) is the coordinating body of the Private Sector of Mauritius and it regroups the main business organizations of the country.

Mauritius has a long-standing tradition of Government/Private Sector dialogue which allows the Private Sector to voice its views on the development strategy of the country. The dialogue takes place in a structured manner as well as on an ad hoc basis.

The main objectives of the JEC are:

to promote the interests of the Private Sector and free enterprise in Mauritius;
to provide for joint consultation among the various organizations of the Private Sector;
to liaise with Government and other bodies on matters relating to the socio-economic development of Mauritius;
to make representations in relation to legislative or other measures affecting the Private Sector; and
to initiate and encourage activities which would further the development and interests of the Private Sector and the upliftment of the country.

AHRIM, ‘Association des Hôteliers et Restaurateurs de l'île Maurice' was formed in 1973, with the primary objective of representing and promoting the interest of hotels and restaurants in Mauritius .

The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry, established in 1850, is the oldest non-profit institution representing the private sector in Mauritius. With the increase in the island's volume of trade during the first decades of British administration, the Mauritian business community felt the need for a formal representational and arbitration framework to foster the interests of the trading community and to settle disputes and conflicts arising in trade-related activities.

Mauritius is now poised to become a cyber island and to serve as an info-communications hub in the region. The vision of an information society dates back to the early 1990s. However, recent top level commitment coupled with the creation of an enabling environment has given Mauritius a new impetus. It is Government's declared policy to make ICT the fifth pillar of the economy alongside sugar, textiles, financial services and tourism.

National Computer Board
The National Computer Board (NCB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies and the Ministry of Women's Rights, Child Development and Family Welfare organised a Round Table session on Thursday the 14th May 2009 at 9.00 am at the Swami Vivekananda Conference Centre, Pailles, to finalise the legal measures recommended in the Child Safety Online Action Plan. The round table was launched by the Hon. Asraf Dulull, Minister of Information and Communications Technology.
