Flic en flac
Description
The name Flic en Fac is thought to come from the old Dutch name. Friend Landt Flaak or Free and Flat land. On older maps this was spelt as fri-lan Flac, subsequently adapted by the Frenf into Flic en Flac.

Flic en Fac, off the Port Louis Tamarin road, lies at the bottom of a 3-km straight road running through cane fields. It is not as cute and care free as its name suggests. Rather, it is an increasingly busy holiday village that lies and relies on a great strech of beach, and caters for the middle range in the market rather than the budget level. There are lots of apartment blocks springing up in this area to cater to the increasing influx of tourists.
History
The Dutch word flaak is the same as in Boere Vlakte farmer's plain or Goote Vlakte, Great Plain, and is the origin of the name Flacq, which is very common on Mauritius. Finally, to round off this musing on placenames, a modern day French slang interpretation of Flic en Flac would be policeman in strife.
Places to eat
Sea Breez, Tel: 4538413 in the centre is popular with locals and tourists who come for the tasty chinese cuisine. The restaurant is open daily except Tuesday from 11.30 am to 2.30 pm and 6 to 10 pm.
Leslie Restaurant is on the roadside just before the road hits the seashore and Flic en Flac.
Villas Caroline ,Has a good restaurant, which is open to non residents, but prices are little high. The restaurant is open daily from noon to 2.30 pm and and 7.30 to 10 pm.
How to get There
By Car:
A charming little coast road links Morne Brabant and Port Louis From the airport take the motorway to Curepipe or Quatre Bournes, from where you can take a monor road down to the coast .
By Bus:
A relatively decent bus services oprerates in the region from the central towns One bus services operates between Quatre Bornes and baie du Cap via the west coast towns From Port Louis, you have to change at Quatre Bornes.
