Euruka House Museum

Eureka House at Moka is an independent museum featuring antiques, furniture old lithographs and other objects from private collection. There is also public museum with collections of natural history, naval, historical and literary items, which came under the aegis of the Mauritius Institute. This was set up in 1880 to establish and incorporate a Public Institute, a Public Museum and a public Library, for the purpose of promoting the general study and cultivation of the various branches and department of Art, sciences, Literature and Philosophy and for the instruction and recreation of the people. The result was the building in the Chaussee, next to the company Gardens of a two-storeyed building, opened in 1884 on the occasion of the Inter-colonial Exhibition. The Institute has now grown into a complex that includes a natural History Museum, Historical Museum and a public Library. The ministry of Education runs it, Art and Culture with the help of an Advisory Council. The Institute of building is itself a national monument. Read More: Eureka la maison Créole - West - Moka
