Location

Royal Road Rose Hill
Mauritius

We build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide.

We are a cultural relations organisation. We aim to build mutually beneficial relationships between people in the UK and Africa, where we have been operating for over 70 years.

We believe that people in African countries and the UK have a lot to learn from each other – we aim to encourage the kind of contact that will enhance mutual understanding and respect.

Mauritius itself, we have undergone many changes over the last 40 years. Our focus, remains on using the resources of the UK to create opportunities for widening your horizons and learning. We have services both for young people and for those that have already embarked on their chosen careers.

The British Council aims to continue meeting Mauritius' aspirations in the following ways:

  • We have taken new directions in the way we deliver our information services. When we transformed our library into a Knowledge and Learning Centre in early 2006, responsive to Mauritius' needs as a 'knowledge hub', we laid emphasis on new learning technologies as well as on more traditional means of gaining information.
  • Our next challenge is to work actively in the development of a 'learning culture', empowering us all to make use of every medium independently and effectively.
  • We work to eradicate the negative forces of climate change through new projects, an exhibition and drama performances.
  • We are also committed to enhancing dialogue between cultures.
